When a driver collides with another vehicle or pedestrian and flees the scene without providing any identifying information, it is termed a hit-and-run accident case. This type of crash can leave the victim feeling confused, frightened, and alone. If you have been the victim of a hit-and-run, it is important to know that you are not alone and that you can take steps to protect your legal rights by contacting King Law.

What to do when you are a victim of a hit-and-run car accident?

If you are involved in a hit-and-run accident case, do not panic. You may be in shock, but it is important to remain calm and keep a clear head.

    1. If you or anyone in the car is injured, call 911 immediately to get an ambulance and police to the scene.
    2. If you can, move your car to the side of the road. If you can not move your car, turn on your hazard lights and set up flares or reflective triangles to warn other drivers.
    3. Call the police to report the accident and give them as much information as possible about the other driver and their car. Describe the vehicle, its make and model, and its license plate number if you can get it.
    4. Get the names and contact information of any witnesses.
    5. If possible, take photos of the accident scene, car, and injuries.
    6. See a doctor as soon as possible, even if you do not think you are injured. Injuries from car accidents often do not show up right away.
    7. Call your insurance company to report the accident and find out what to do next.
    8. Notify the police. Many insurance companies require a police report.
    9. Get the witness’s driver’s license number, license plate number, and insurance information.
    10. Get the names and phone numbers of any other witnesses to the accident.
    11. Try to get a description of the driver and the car.
    12. Take photos of the accident scene, the damage to your car, and any personal injuries, if possible.
    13. Save all receipts relating to the accident, including towing charges, rental cars, and medical bills.
